January 2010
Happy New Year. Despite the freezing weather term started on time and with a healthy number of new students on the Graduate Programme and both 24 Week Courses. In addition a lively group of Six Week students started too. A ‘welcome drinks’ on the first Friday of term was held in the buttery for all new starters and this helped to introduce students across all courses to each other and gave staff the opportunity to meet the new starters outside a classroom setting.
Meanwhile college life for our returning students started where it left off in December. A visit to the Houses of Parliament for the Two Term Executive Course students was a great success – a private guided tour provided an opportunity to see the workings of the Houses, to ask about career opportunities and a specially arranged workshop in a well equipped classroom demonstrated better than any lecture how elections work - everyone participated to the full and profited from the trip.
The scale and devastation of Haiti earthquake shocked everyone and all of the tutors were delighted when a group of Diploma students recommended a ‘cake sale’ to raise funds for the relief effort. There was never any doubt that such an event would be well supported and very popular. Chloe Summers, Maddie Cameron, Victoria Keragorgis and Francesca Tabor deserve special mention for the energy and organisation they put into this.
This term the College will be visiting several schools and career fairs. We thank Epping Forest for hosting a busy career evening and Chigwall for inviting Quest to its event for the first time.
